Following his rejection of a request for a selfie, Indian cricketer Prithvi Shaw’s car was attacked with a baseball bat on Wednesday. Sapna Gill, a female social media influencer, has been detained by the Mumbai Police after the incident, and seven other people have also been charged with violence and extortion.
Prithvi Shaw was allegedly assaulted in front of a five-star hotel in Mumbai on February 15. The car that was carrying Shaw, according to the allegation made by Shaw’s friend Ashish Surendra Yadav, was attacked by a Social Media influencer and her seven friends with baseball bats. The accused then pursued the vehicle and threatened to file false charges if Shaw refused to pay them Rs 50.000. The eight people have been charged with several offenses under the Indian Criminal Code, including unlawful assembly, extortion, using firearms for offense, and other sections, according to Oshiwara Police.
What really happened between Prithvi Shaw and Sapna Gill?
According to the complaint, Shaw had gone out to dinner with his friends at a five-star hotel in Santacruz when a group of unknown individuals approached their table and insisted on taking a selfie. Two people requested selfies with the cricketer, and he allowed them, but after a while, the same group came back and demanded more selfies. Shaw declined, stating he had come to eat with friends and didn’t want to be bothered.
Prithvi’s friend complained about them to the hotel manager when they insisted on taking selfies. The accuseds were then ordered to leave the hotel by the hotel manager. The accused, however, were waiting outside the hotel when Shaw and his friend left after eating, and when they did, they attacked them with baseball bats and broke the front and back windows of their BMW.
When Shaw’s friend’s car came to a stop next to Jogeshwari’s Lotus gas station, a woman approached it and began verbally insulting the driver and passenger. The complainant further stated that the woman demanded 50,000 Rupess or else she would file a false complaint. Shaw’s friend went to the Oshiwara Police Station and reported the event there.
“Prithvi Shaw attacked her with a bat”, claims Sapna’s lawyer
The Prithvi Shaw selfie incident has taken on an intriguing new turn as the accused Sapna Gill, who is reportedly an influencer, claims that Prithvi Shaw and her friends physically assaulted her. One of the eight individuals detained by the Oshiwara Police in Bombay, Sapna Gill, said that Prithvi Shaw had a bat in his hand when he and his accomplices assaulted her and her friends.
Additionally, Sapna’s lawyer changes the storyline by denying the claim made by Prithvi Shaw in the police report. According to Gill’s lawyer Ali Kashif Khan Deshmukh, when Sapna Gill and Prithvi Shaw were both attending a gathering in the hotel, Sapna Gill approached Prithvi Shaw as a fan to take a selfie with him. Ali asserts that Shaw, who was drunk, struck Sapna with a bat and then went to the police the following day and reported a false incident.
Both sides have entirely different narratives and blame the other as the offender while attributing themselves as the victims. The truth, however, will be unraveled once the Oshiwara Police completes its investigation. While Prithvi hopes that this incident won’t jeopardise his cricket career, which is already in jeopardy due to several injuries, Sapna’s counsel will work to secure her release on bail.
